More land needed to raise coconut production and meet demand

BAGAN DATOH: Some 3,000ha of land is needed to plant coconuts to produce an additional 72 million fruits a year for the country’s consumption, said Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

At present, coconut production stands at 539 million fruits a year compared to the yearly consumption of 611 million fruits.
