SIBU: Quick action by the Marine Operation Force (MOF) led to the seizure of 304 illegal logs at Jalan Teku Pasai Siong here.

The seizure was from one of the many operations carried out by the MOF following a directive issued by Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem to crack down on illegal logging in the state.

Two lorries were carrying the logs worth a total of RM22,800 at about 6pm Tuesday when they were stopped by MOF enforcement officers.

The logs were of various species of trees and sizes.

The operation code named Ops Landai was carried out following a tip-off.

An on-the-spot investigation revealed that the logs did not have the official stamp from the Forestry Department nor the Transit Removal Pass from the Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), an offence under the Sarawak Foresty Ordinance.

The drivers of the two lorries aged 36 and 44 were subsequently detained for investigation. MOF also seized the two vehicles worth RM760,000.

A police report has been lodged at Sungai Merah Police Station.
