PETALING JAYA: Police shot dead a foreigner during a robbery at an internet cafe in Jinjang on Sunday.
Sentul OCPD Asst Comm R. Munusamy said the man, in his 20s, was shot by a police detective when he took out a pistol, later found to be fake, and demanded money from the cashier in the 2pm incident.
Earlier, two detectives had tailed the suspect, who was wearing black and wearing a full-faced helmet, and riding an unregistered motorcycle.
“He looked suspicious and due to that the officers followed him,” ACP Munusamy said.
He said the suspect stopped near the cafe located in a business centre and was looking suspiciously at the shop.
One of the detectives entered the cafe and pretended to be a customer.
He confronted the suspect after the latter rushed into the shop and took out the weapon and demanded money.
ACP Munusamy said the suspect had pointed his weapon at the detective forcing him to open fire.
Checks found that the suspect used a fake pistol. Police recovered a sling bag containing Malaysian and Indonesian currencies and an Indonesian passport.
It is not known if the man was behind the robbery at a clinic in Jalan Jambu earlier in the day by a man who was similarly clad in black.
