Sarawak DAP chief slammed for Negaraku FB posting

PETALING JAYA: The MCA and MIC Youth wings have slammed Sarawak DAP chief Chong Chieng Jen for his controversial Facebook posting which questioned the playing of the Negaraku in cinemas.

Penang MCA Youth chief Michael Lee said Chong, who is the Kuching MP, was “too obsessed” with political hatred and that his attack on the Negaraku had set a bad example.

“You may feel dissatisfied with the Government, but by no means should you rubbish our national anthem, which represents the country and must be respected by all,” Lee said in a statement yesterday.

Lee, however, said Chong’s apology showed that he was better than certain DAP leaders who repeatedly made baseless accusations in the media but remained arrogant and unapologetic.

“Those who feel that they can choose not to stand up when the national anthem is played at a paid event are politically immature.

“We should not lose our love for our country. Many countries are embroiled in wars, famine and all types of disasters and instability,” he said.

MIC Youth chief C. Sivarraajh described Chong’s Facebook posting as “an absolute disgrace”.

“MIC Youth strongly condemns the behaviour of the Sarawak DAP chief for his disparaging remarks.

“Chong is an embarrassment to Parliament,” Sivarraajh said in a statement.

Chong, in a posting on Tuesday, had asked if the country was moving towards the communist Mao (founder of the People’s Republic of China Mao Zedong) era, when people had to shout out loud to show their patriotism.

Chong subsequently apologised and retracted his post three hours later.

“A mere apology and retraction of such an abusive posting and on Malaysia Day is not enough.

“He should not be let off by a simple apology,” said Sivarraajh.
