Online journalist released on police bail

GEORGE TOWN: Malaysiakini journalist Susan Loone was released at 11.45pm Thursday after spending nine hours at the northeast district police headquarters here.

Loone was called in at 3pm to assist with investigations into her article quoting PPS commander Phee Boon Poh saying that he was "treated like a criminal" during police questioning some four days ago.

She was released on police bail and has to report back on Oct 3.

Loone said she was treated well by the police as they were constantly asking about her well-being.

"I'm happy to be released and will be able to celebrate my mother's 80th birthday on Sept 8," she told reporters after her release in front of the police headquarters.
