'Put a stop to photocopy express'

PETALING JAYA: An Umno leader has claimed that confidential project proposals to the Government have been leaked and copied by other companies, affecting the Government’s credibility in some cases.

Selangor Umno secretary Datuk Johan Abdul Aziz said some proposals by certain entities had been replicated by others in a phenomenon known as the “photocopy express”.

Johan, who is also Semenyih assemblyman, said the act of revealing the confidential information was highly irresponsible.

“How would the company that came up with the original proposal feel if its idea was copied by others?

“This would affect the credibility of the Government as well since such information is meant to be confidential,” he said when contacted yesterday.

Johan’s statement came after Umno supreme council member Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi brought up the issue, where the latter emphasised that confidentiality must be safeguarded at all times.

Puad had alleged that the act of leaking out information also involved “inside help”.

Johan said such activities must be stopped and called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to look into the matter.

“I intend to propose this issue to be debated in the coming Umno general assembly,” he said.
