2,290 traffic offenders nabbed in 989 operations nationwide

BACHOK: Police arrested 2,290 traffic offenders in 989 operations up to Tuesday under "Op Warta Khas" conducted throughout the country.

Federal police Internal Security and Public Order director, Datuk Seri Salleh Mat Rasid said 50,694 checks were made on drivers and vehicle owners in the effort to track down 1.9 million traffic offenders who failed to settle their traffic summonses and issued with warrants of arrest.

Also checked under the same operation was the use of number plates and vehicle lights that was not in accordance with the law, he told reporters after conducting a special check on the Tasks Implementation Standard at the Bachok district police headquarters.

The "Op Warta Khas" is effective from June 16 until this Friday, aimed at detecting traffic offenders who failed to settle their traffic summonses despite warrants of arrest being issued on them.

Salleh said the operation, however, had some positive impact while police would continue to go after the errant ones.

On the Tasks Implementation Standard, he said 10 inspection teams were formed to monitor and study the physical needs, adherence to work rules by officers and staff, as well as their welfare at 10 district police headquarters in Kelantan. - Bernama
