PETALING JAYA: The Auto Audio, Accessories and Air Condition Traders Association of Malaysia (AAA) have suggested that the tint level for cars be set at 40% for the front windscreen, and 60% for the back windscreen and all other windows.
Its president Cherrie Lim Bee Choo said the proposal “we are suggesting is still quite bright and does not hinder visibility in anyway”.
“Many cars these days come with laminated windows that are darker, giving no allowance for added tinting to enhance the heat reflecting capabilities of car windows without breaking the law.
“If the latest proposal to the Transport Ministry goes through, there will be no tint film in the market that car dealers can use to keep within the regulations,” she told a press conference yesterday.
At a two-day workshop last week, it was proposed that tinting for the two back windows and the back windscreen to be increased from 50% to 70%.
Lim said as the front windscreen was most exposed to the sun, a 40% tinting level should be allowed. On AAA’s counter proposal for 60% tint of the back windscreen and side windows, she said this would be highly beneficial to the driver and passengers.
