IPOH: A man who was awakened from his sleep by a loud sound found the glass door of his house had shattered and the ceiling had collapsed.
“Initially, I thought that my maid had broken something, so I did not think much about it at first,” said the 39-year-old freelance engineer, who is married with two children
“Moments later, I smelled smoke coming in from the front door. To my horror, I found the front porch in ruins,” he said of the 4.30am incident yesterday in Taman Silibin Ria. His car was also damaged.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said a police bomb squad conducted an investigation and identified that the type of explosive used was a firework shell. “The culprit had planted it in one of the house owner’s flowerpots that was placed at the front gate.
“It was then shifted to his front door before it exploded,” he told reporters.
He said the person could have easily climbed over the fence to shift the pot.
Fortunately, the man and his family were unhurt, he added.
The police are investigating the motive for the bombing.
