Karpal Singh: Khairy tells Perkasa’s Zulkifli to ‘shut up’ over insensitive tweets

PETALING JAYA: Politicians including Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and the public have told off Perkasa vice-president Datuk Zulkifli Noordin for his insensitive tweets over the tragic death of Bukit Gelugor MP Karpal Singh.

Only hours after the 1am car crash which claimed the lives of Karpal and his assistant, C. Michael on Thursday, Zulkifli went on Twitter to share how he sees Karpal’s death as a step ahead for the implementation of hudud law in Kelantan.

Zulkifli via his account @zulkiflinoordin had tweeted: “Dlm keadaan kemelut Krjn PAS Klntn mau mlaksanakn hudud dgn bantuan UMNO,Allah tlh mmatikn Karpal yg mnjadi pnentang utama prlaksanaannya! (At a time where PAS Kelantan is in plans to introduce hudud with the help of Umno, Allah has brought upon the death of Karpal who was a main opponent to its implementation!)."

The Syariah lawyer and politician then added: "Moga prjuangn utk mlaksanakn hudud d Kltn brjaya.Alhmdlhh dgn ksatuan aqidah UMNO-PAS & ktiadaan Karpal, saya prcaya laluan makin dprmudahkn! (May the fight for hudud in Kelantan be successful. Alhamdulillah, with the unity of belief among Umno and PAS, and without the presence of Karpal, I believe the path has been cleared!).”

Zulkifli then appeared to have a change of heart, posting up a short paragraph in memory of Karpal.

In a sharp reply, Umno Youth head Khairy Jamaluddin admonished Zulkifli, telling him to, “Shut up. Really, shut up.”

The response received 1330 retweets by politicians, the public and national figures including Marina Mahathir and former Termerloh MP Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.

Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin also came to Karpal’s defence, saying: “Have you no heart? Even Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, gave respect to the bodies of Jews when they came across his path (as far as I know) .

“@zulkiflinoordin can u just shut up first?,” added Semambu assemblyman, Lee Chean Chung.

Langkawi MP Nawawi Ahmad also received heavy backlash from netizens after posting a callous update on his Facebook page, making light of Karpal's death.

He posted a photo of Karpal’s bloodied face after the fatal accident with the accompanying comment, "Siapa nak sambut cabaran Karpal Singh? Sila bagi nama hehe. (Who would like to accept the dare of Karpal Singh? Please list your names)."

Another image of a newspaper cutout was attached, which quoted Karpal’s as saying, “Mahu wujudkan negara Islam langkah mayat kami dulu (The creation of an Islamic state will be over our dead body)."

The Facebook post has since been deleted after a flurry of negative comments reprimanding Nawawi over his distasteful actions.

Karpal, a prominent Opposition and DAP leader and his assistant were killed instantly when the car they were travelling in crashed into a lorry near Gua Tempurung on the North South Expressway.

Karpal’s son, Ramkarpal, driver C. Selvam and domestic helper were injured in the accident. They were on their way to Penang for a court case.
