Three dead in Bentong express bus crash

KUANTAN: Three passengers were killed when an express bus they were in overturned at 12.30am Saturday.

Bentong OCPD Supt Mohd Mansor Mohd Nor said the driver of the Transnasional double decker bus had been trying to overtake several vehicles at KM11 of Jalan Bentong-Raub when he lost control of the bus.

The bus, which was carrying 68 people, then crashed into an electric pole on the right side of the road before it overturned.

Two Malaysians, Zarifah Alias, 26, Suhaisam Che Abdullah, 33, and Somali national Saeed Mohamad Mohamud Abdalla, 31, died from severe head injuries in the 12.30am incident.

Ten others have been warded at the Temerloh and Bentong hospitals for various injuries.

The bus driver Wan Khairul Affendi Mustafa, 35, suffered a broken right leg and is being warded at the Bentong hospital.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.
