Teenager stabs mum to death for refusing to buy him handphone

MIRI: A quarrel which dragged on from last night ended in tragedy when a teenager stabbed his 43-year-old mother to death on Saturday.

Police chief ACP Gan Tian Kee said the 18-year-old suspect had been detained to help in the investigation.

"The case is solved, son stabbed (his mother) because of family problems," he said when confirming the incident to Bernama.

ACP Gan did not not provide details on the problems faced by the family.

It is learnt that the heated quarrel was a result of the mother's refusal to buy the son a smart phone.

The body of the victim, a tuition teacher, was found in her Hyundai Atos car in a parking area, near a tennis court in the city centre, at 3pm Saturday.

Police found a knife in the car believed to have been used in the killing.
