SUNGAI PETANI: Some 2,700 units of affordable housing will be completed by the end of 2016 in Kedah under the 1Malaysia People’s Housing Scheme (PR1MA), said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Prime Minister said the houses, to be built under two projects here, were part of the 20,000 PR1MA units targeted to be built in the state across all its 12 districts.
“In Kedah alone, there will be 40,000 units of affordable houses of which half will come under PR1MA and the rest to be developed by other agencies.
“Under PR1MA, we’ve already approved 13,000 units in six districts of Kedah. Only the locations of 7,000 units are now left to be identified,” he said at the Kedah state-level launching of PR1MA here yesterday.
Najib stressed that houses under PR1MA would be 20% lower than the market price to enable more young people to own homes.
He also said that the subsidy rationalisation was not against the Government’s 1Malaysia philosophy but was aimed at financial saving to benefit more projects.
Perbadanan PR1MA chairman Datuk Seri Jamaluddin Jarjis said the PR1MA projects in the state were supported by the Kedah State Development Corporation.
He said PR1MA also offered a rent and buy scheme for those who are unable to get loans.
A PR1MA statement said that the six districts where the 13,000 units had been approved are Kuala Muda, Kulim, Kota Setar, Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena and Langkawi.
It said that 2,700 units to be built here are landed property, consisting of single and double-storey terraced homes as well as single and double-storey semi-detached homes.
They are priced from RM118,888 for the single-storey terraced units and from RM258,888 for the double-storey semi-detached units.
To date, PR1MA has received 405,000 registrations nationwide. It aimed to build 500,000 homes.
