Fight against dengue hits a snag

The sign says it loud and clear – dengue kills. But the message has become clouded in a fog of apathy among people who continue to allow larvae to breed and stand in the way of offi cials who want to destroy the larvae.

PETALING JAYA: The fight against dengue seems to have hit a snag due to the lukewarm, tidak apa or even hostile attitude of the public towards enforcement officers.

Local councils in various states say their efforts to eliminate the killer mosquitoes are frustrated by the reluctance of people to allow their staff into some areas.

MBPJ, the Petaling Jaya City Council, said community participation was essential to curb dengue.
