The suspect who was caught by members of the public in Lintas Square
KOTA KINABALU: A suspected snatch thief made a mistake of prowling around the area where he earlier got away with a handphone.
The man was again preying on victims on Friday at Lintas Plaza where a day earlier he snatched the phone from a 17-year-old student.
He was not so lucky this time round. The student spotted him and alerted members of the public there.
The victim told people that the man was the one who snatched her handphone the previous evening.
They quickly pounced on the man, held him down before the police arrived at 3.30pm.
"I can recognise him because he snatched my handphone and he is wearing the same shirt he wore yesterday,” said the girl.
The girl claimed that the man slapped her twice and hit her in the abdomen after he snatched her handphone.
She had lodged a police report after the incident. Now she is glad the man has been arrested.
Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun said police were investigating the case.
