GEORGE TOWN: Hundreds of people gathered at the old bus depot in Jalan Gurdwara here to see more than 20 brand new wall paintings by Lithuanian artist Ernest Zacharevic.
On the opening day on Friday, visitors to the exhibition in the former Hin Company Bus Depot were delighted with the 27-year-old Zacharevic’s new murals and installations in his first solo exhibition.
Many took photos of his works at the exhibition themed Art is Rubbish/Rubbish is Art.
Among the installations were an aquarium with live fish swimming with toy guns aptly named Guns and Fishes, a painting on a gunnysack called Produce In Indonesia, showing a mother holding her child, and a model of a shark fin on the ground.
There was also a booth where postcards, notebook, T-shirts and other items related to Zacharevic’s work were being sold.
Zacharevic, who came to Penang three years ago for the annual George Town Festival, is known for his eight street murals in the state.
The exhibition opens from noon to 8pm daily until Feb 14. Admission is free.
