When 'Eyes of the World' came to a standstill

KUALA LUMPUR: They had prepared and practised for months to play Standing in the Eyes of the World to usher in the New Year and to mark the start of Visit Malaysia Year 2014. In the end, it all came to nought.

The 50-member Kuala Lumpur City Hall Orchestra never made it to the final song as they were forced to pack up and abandon the stage after thousands of protesters from the Gerakan Turun Kos Sara Hidup (Turun) rally stormed the field in Dataran Merdeka.
