Politicians laud new panel

KUALA LUMPUR: The proposed bi-partisan parliamentary committee to oversee the Election Commission would help quell public misconception over the role and function of the EC, said Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan.

The move forms part of the Prime Minister’s push for political reforms to strengthen the country’s democratic process, he said, commenting on the proposal by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for a committee that would comprise members of both the Barisan Nasional and the Opposition to allay concerns over the impartiality of the country’s election management body.
