SIBU: Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) wants the organiser of the annual Sibu Bike Week to have the event on a grander scale during the Visit Sibu Year 2016.

SMC deputy chairman Datuk Andrew Wong said this at the launch of the three-day 4th Sibu Bike Week on Saturday.

He said as the event is already an international one attracting big bike enthusiasts from other parts of the world, having it on a bigger scale during Vist Sibu Year 2016 would be ideal.

He said the organiser, Razz Chopper Motor Club, would only need to put in more effort.

“If they can have it on a grander scale, it would certainly help to attract more visitors to the town during Visit Sibu Year 2016. The Sibu Bike Week could even be on the tourism calendar for the town,” he said.

The participation of 2,000 big bike enthusiasts from Abu Dhabi, Germany, the Philippines, Bandung, Singapore, Brunei, West Malaysia, Pontianak and Borneo this year, he said, was a good indication that the event is helping to put Sibu on the world map.

Organiser for the yearly event, Abdul Razak Abdul Salam, said he was supporting Wong’s call for them to have the event on a larger scale during the Visit Sibu Year 2016.

Present at the ceremony was district police chief, ACP Mohd Kamal Kordi, who is also a big bike enthusiast.
