THE battle for the tallest and biggest Christmas trees is on as shopping centres in the Klang Valley try to outdo each other with towering decorations.
Suria KLCC has erected what is deemed to be the tallest Christmas tree in Malaysia, standing at 32m in height and 14m in width.
“The diameter of the tree is 12.2m. It took about nine weeks to fabricate, erect and decorate the tree,” said Suria KLCC PR and Communications manager Fartini Zaharuddin.
She said it would be recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the “Tallest Christmas Tree Replica” in Malaysia at the KLCC Esplanade at 8pm on Dec 9.
To highlight the theme, “The Gift of Heaven”, she said the shopping centre had been transformed with gift arches at its main entrances, welcoming visitors while the centre court was adorned with various sizes of Christmas trees, gift boxes, and Santa’s basket of gifts as well as Elves’ selection of gifts.
Meanwhile, Berjaya Times Square Kuala Lumpur is presenting the “Biggest Christmas Tree Replica” in the country as certified by the Malaysia Book of Records, which sits at the ground floor central.
Measuring a whopping 11.6m in height with a diameter of 6.1m, the giant tree has 4,350 branches and 76,125 tips.
To welcome its first Christmas celebration since its opening earlier this year, Nu Sentral created a 15.24m in height and 2.6m in diameter Christmas tree for its “NU Whimsical Christmas”.
“As this is our first Christmas, we decided to make it extra special and went the extra mile to provide the best for our shoppers,” said Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) Group Retail Asset Development general manager Zetty Juyanty.
Subang Parade is teaming up with the well-known retailer of toys Hamleys at the shopping centre’s west-end concourse to bring to life the inner-child in everyone with its theme “Dear Santa”.
“Like all wishes sent to Santa Claus, it begins with a ‘Dear Santa’ letter that is mailed to Santa’s Wishing Station.
“The theme aims to rekindle memories of one’s childhood; invoke the magical sense of awe and excitement a child has towards Santa Claus and how he mysteriously prepares all the Christmas gifts,” said Subang Parade centre manager Nik Azlan Nik Aman.
Just a few steps away is the Empire Shopping Gallery, which is filled with Christmas decorations that highlights the mall’s “A Mechanical Christmas” theme.
The shopping centre’s concourse and ground levels have been transformed with mechanical Christmas decorations.
The candy-decorated sitting areas, mechanical Santa and reindeer make it a popular place for shoppers to capture the holiday spirit with some photo-taking.
The Curve has chosen to bring their centre court to life with a White Christmas atmosphere.
With its “A Christmas Encounter!” theme, a double-storey log cabin as the centrepiece, is set amidst a snowy landscape of tall pinecone trees and lit up by strings of twinkling fairy lights.
The neighbouring eCurve is celebrating Christmas in a “Rocking Rolling Christmas” style. What comes to mind here is the true-blue American-style diner with bright green vinyl seats, glowing neon signs, and a classic jukebox blasting out a playlist of all-time Christmas tunes.
eCurve Centre manager Azizul Hisham Ahmad said they decided to recreate the family-friendly concept of an American diner so that shoppers could have a chance to experience the fun ambience of the rock and roll era.
