I RECENTLY attended a seminar on the implementation of minimum wages in Asean countries, South Korea and Japan organised by the Human Resources Ministry.
It is quite eye-opening to note that almost every Asean country has either implemented minimum wages or is planning to do so. This is a stark contrast to not so long ago when governments saw minimum wages as a Western concept and akin to a welfare state.
