The helipad project in Taman Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur is expected to be operational by the end of the year, said Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib.
He said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) had received endorsement from the Civil Aviation Department and was in the midst of finalising the details.
“We are still inspecting the safety and operational procedures of the helipad to ensure it follows the guideline provided by the department.
“This includes a suitable and safe flight path to be determined by the department to ensure public safety.
“We will also take into account all the complaints by nearby residents and ensure that the helipad will not affect their livelihood,” he said during the DBKL monthly gathering and Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2014 celebration at the Titiwangsa indoor stadium recently.
Ahmad Phesal added that DBKL had put up a notice at the helipad site to inform the public on when it would be operational because several unauthorised landings had been done previously.
“When it is operational, it will be used for tourism purposes as well as for emergencies or special bookings by the corporate sector,” he said.
The helipad was initially expected to be operational by June but was delayed as DBKL was finalising thorough safety preparations.
On another matter, Ahmad Phesal said DBKL would continue using speakers to inform motorists who stopped their vehicle in the yellow box.
“We received complaints that some of the motorists could not hear the warning from the speaker.
“Thus, we will improve on the initiative which includes adding lights as indicators.
“Currently, DBKL has placed speakers at four junctions and we plan to set up more speakers at several locations where is applicable,” he said.
