Students urged to apply for study loans

THE Penang government is inviting students pursuing certificate, diploma and degree courses including long-distance learning and off campus programmes to apply for higher study loans.

The Chief Minister’s political secretary Wong Hon Wai said applications for the loans were currently open until July 31 and students could apply via online at http:/epp.penang.gov.my.

“The applicants must be born in Penang or have studied at least five years in any schools in Penang, and have been offered a place in any public institutions of higher learning,” Wong said in a statement.

The amount of loan, said Wong, would vary from RM2,000 for certificate programmes to RM8,000 a year for those pursuing PhD courses.

He said the state government had given out loans to 896 deserving students from 2008 to 2013.
