Runners with their ‘colourful’ outfits after completing the Splash Run.
MORE THAN 350 runners gathered in SEGi College Subang Jaya wearing white
T-shirts to take part in a marathon dubbed the Splash Run 2014 and went home with a
T-shirt full of colours.
Unlike a regular marathon, the run drew inspiration from the ancient Hindu festival Holi, popularly known as the festival of colours, as well as the “Colour Run”, a similar event that is gaining popularity overseas.
The route began and ended in the college’s compound while proceeding along roads in the USJ and SS14 area.
Participants were frolicking as they were doused with coloured powder by committee members during the flag-off of the 5km run and once again when they crossed the finish line.
Runners at the event ranged from marathon enthusiasts, seasoned athletes to regular folk looking to have some fun.
“This is really a one-of-a-kind event and we had so much fun participating.
“We started the race in plain white T-shirts and ended it in brightly coloured shirts,” said an exuberant participant Jason Teh.
The run was organised by students pursuing their diploma in mass communications as part of their final-year project, and they were delighted with the outcome.
“My teammates and I are thrilled to see the participants enjoying themselves.
“We hope the skills that we have learned will be beneficial to our future endeavours,” said project head Michael Baldwin.
Creative Arts & Design faculty head Roslan Othman said the
preparation for such an event would benefit the students by providing them with a practical platform to face the professional industry.
Organising committee member Keshia Mahmood said based on the positive feedback from participants, they were looking for ways to bring the run back for a second time next year.
