INTI International College Penang students got a little taste of American culture through an exhibition.
It was held in conjunction with Independence Day which is celebrated on July 4 in the United States.
Held at the Alkira restaurant on the campus, it was organised by three of INTI Penang’s American University Program (AUP) alumni – Alyssa Ong, Lim Zuan-Fu and Aaron Teh Wei Hsuen.
The event featured the students’ personal stories and achieve- ments while studying in the United States.
The event was a great opportunity for fresh AUP students to attain some helpful advice from seniors who had already gone to the US and been through the process of settling in.
“It wasn’t hard for me. By the time my first class started, I was already all set and ready to get involved,” said Ong.
She credited her honours class advisors with her smooth transition to life there.
Lim, pursuing his major in Biomedical Engineering, advised his juniors to always get involved in things when they embark on their studies in the US.
He said there were endless opportunities for students who get the chance to study there and it was all up to each individual to make as much out of those opportunities as possible.
“Be proactive.
“Be willing to step out of your comfort zone and delve into new experiences,” he stressed.
AUS student Natalie Teo said the one thing that surprised her the most about classes in the US was the sheer size of some of them.
“A class can have up to 800 students.
“In such instances, you have to be proactive and approach your lecturers with questions.
“Otherwise, you will fall behind,” Teo reasoned.
Also present during the event was INTI Penang principal Dr Michael Yap.
Throughout the day, attendees mingled about and absorbed the information on display at the exhibition.
The American Degree Transfer Program is offered at INTI Interna-tional College Penang and all its major campuses.
Those studying under the AUP may transfer to over 300 universities in the United States and Canada to specialise in their major.
