JOHOR BARU: The Iskandar Malaysia Klik (IM Klik) photography competition is back for the second year with a new theme.

It is expected to receive over 1,000 submissions in portraying people living and working in Iskandar Malaysia.

Apart from offering a bigger prize for the top winners, the competition promises to be more exciting with an additional category - short video - which should also carry the same theme as the photography category which is ‘We Are Iskandarians’.

Iskandar Investment Berhad president and chief executive officer Datuk Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim said they hope that the short video segment will be the choice medium for teenagers and young adults to express their pride in being an Iskandarian.

“The 15-second slot on social media platforms, including YouTube and Instagram, will be judged by the number of ‘likes’ received to emerge as winners,” he said, adding that the first IM Klik photography competition was launched in 2014 with the theme ‘Liveable City of Iskandar Malaysia’.

Syed Mohamed said that they received over a thousand entries the first year, depicting the hardscapes of the fast developing city.

He said Iskandarians from all walks of life had proudly shown Iskandar Malaysia from the way they saw the city evolving right before their eyes.

“Now, we would like to see the pulse of this region, their laughter, gatherings and the spirit of its people in the second contest.

“Participants are also eligible to attend an exclusive and complimentary workshop to sharpen their photography and videography skills,” he said, adding that the fun and hands-on workshop would help them to better capture the heart of Iskandar Malaysia in terms of technical skills.

The one-day workshop, which is scheduled to be held at Horizon Hills Golf and Country Club tomorrow, would be conducted by renowned photography guru Andrew Boey from the Nikonean Beyond Photography Academy in Kuala Lumpur.

Syed Mohamed added that so far over 90 photographs from the top 53 winners and specially picked additional photographs depicting the vibrancy of Iskandar Malaysia have been immortalised in an exclusive coffee table book entitled ‘Iskandar Malaysia – Through the Lens’.

He said the winner would walk away with a RM4,000 cash voucher, while the second and third prize winner would receive RM3,000 and RM2,000 cash vouchers respectively.

There are also 27 consolation prizes up for grabs.

Starting from now until Oct 31, amateur and professional photographers are welcome to submit their entries at IM Klik website at www.imklik.com.
