KOTA KINABALU: Trust and unity are the foundation in building strong economic ties, said the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).
BIMP-EAGA council chairman Datuk Roselan Johar Mohamed said trust, mutual respect and unity were needed to build better ties between Palawan Island and Sandakan.
”The good values we adopt will be an example to other countries in BIMP-EAGA,” he said after a networking programme between Palawan Island of the Philippines and Sandakan business delegates organised by the council.
Roselan said such programmes allow participants to learn about different cultures and business ethics.
Earlier in his speech, Roselan suggested farmers in Palawan grow Cardenza bananas on a large scale.
“Palawan should also consider having a 4G Internet service to facilitate business activities,” he said.
Representative of the delegates, Marie Tehani Hernandez said such programmes enable businesses from Palawan to expand their knowledge.
“We hope to increase economic activity between Sandakan and Kudat,” she said.
Hernandez added Sandakan and Kudat were chosen as potential business partners because of their close proximity to the island.
“It will be easier to trade in fresh produce such as vegetables and fruits,” she said.
Hernandez also urged businesses from Palawan to educate their Sandakan counterparts on the products available on the island.
