KUCHING: The importance of July 22 as Sarawak’s independence day should be appreciated in the overall context of Malaysian nationhood.
State Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi said July 22 was a significant date because that was when Sarawak gained independence from the British in 1963 before forming Malaysia with the Federation of Malaya, Sabah and Singapore on Sept 16 the same year.
