Brigitte Bardot is inspiration for fashion brand's Summer 2014 collection.
THINK of sexpot Brigitte Bardot; then imagine her pout in 1956’s Et Dieu Créa la Femme (And God Created Woman). That is the very image Guess has drawn from as an inspiration for its Summer 2014 collection.
St-Tropez – the quaint village that served as a backdrop for the French film Bardot acted in have since transformed into a sizzling jet-set favourite for many, too, especially the rich and famous.
The fashion that one would associate it with? Maybe something with a more sensual feel, although luxurious at the same time. Beautiful and laidback yet ever so playful would probably be the best description.
In Guess’ latest, there is an abundant use of whites and baby blues. This relaxed colour palette however, does see highlights like yellow pop and sea green making an appearance as well.
The brand has made use of innovative fabric and wash technologies to create the indigo colour and tile prints for this collection. This can be observed in the varied pretty designs that are available.
Ladies can expect a plenitude of denim styles, too. There are pieces such as shortalls, shorts, corsets, jackets and jeans to be had – which are offered in several different washes and treatments.
As much as the mutedly casual aesthetic is at the forefront, there is a softer side to the collection. The feminine pieces in eyelet and lace fabrics, plus floral appliqués, are very good examples of such an idea.
All in all, you could say that the Summer 2014 collection from Guess perfectly marries the heady mix of Roman and Modernist touches of the South of France, but with fashion-forward styling through a modern lens.
> Guess’s womenswear collection is priced from RM109. It is currently available in stores.
