Melaka information centre will be developed in China, says Idris Haron

MELAKA: A Melaka Information Centre estimated to be worth over RM100 million will be developed by a Malaysian investment and property development company in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, in southern China.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Idris Haron said the information centre that would be developed by LBS Bina Group Bhd (LBS) on a 106.6-hectare site would exhibit information and developments related to Melaka, especially tourist destinations, culture and community.

"The state government welcomes the development of the Melaka Information Centre as it would be able to promote the state to some 1.3 billion people in China directly and accurately.

"We will make efforts to provide all information that will be exhibited at the centre from time to time," he said to reporters after a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the Melaka state government and LBS, via its subsidiary Lamdeal Investment Limited, at Seri Negeri here, today.

The MoU was signed by Idris and Melaka state secretary, Datuk Naim Abu Bakar on behalf of Perbadanan Ketua Menteri, while LBS was represented by its managing director, Datuk Seri Lim Hock San and executive director Datuk Joey Lim Hock Guan.

Idris said the construction of the information centre which will feature the Melaka house design was expected to complete in two years and it would indirectly strengthen the cooperation in trade, economy, culture and tourism.

Meanwhile, Lim said the information centre, which would be built at the entrance to Zhuhai, would become an important tourist attraction that would help boost Melaka's tourism industry as well as Malaysia's tourism sector generally.

"A majority of the Chinese people have heard of Melaka but they probably do not get the accurate information on the state," Lim said.-Bernama
