While Nintendo has announced that the new Switch 2 will be available on June 5, local gamers will have to wait as it is only expected to be released in Malaysia sometime between July and September.

"The new game system, Nintendo Switch 2, will be released in July-September 2025 in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

"We are working to launch online services, including Nintendo Switch Online and the Nintendo eShop in these four countries," the company said in an announcement on its website.

Earlier, the company announced that the latest Switch model will be available on June 5, starting at US$449.99 (RM2,011). Preorder in North America and European markets will begin later this month. Exclusive Switch 2 game titles include Mario Kart World will be available on June 5 (US$79.99/RM357) and Donkey Kong Bonanza (US$69.99/RM312) on July 17.

When contacted by LifestyleTech, Nintendo Switch local official distributor Convergent said it has no details yet on pricing.

Users on the Reddit Malaysia page anticipate the new model will be priced between RM2,000 and RM2,500. While some gamers are excited about the upcoming Switch 2, others are concerned that new game titles for the console could cost upwards of RM400.

When the Nintendo Switch was first released in Malaysia back in 2017, local retailers offered a bundle set with two games at RM2,099. The OLED model – available in 2021 – was priced at RM1,699.

Nintendo said the new Switch 2 model will come with 7.9in LCD display, claiming that touchscreen is more responsive. It added that the Joy-Con 2 controllers can also be used as a mouse for games that require precise aiming.

It also promises that users will experience better processing speed and graphics performance. The devices comes with a 256GB storage, uses microSD express cards for additional storage (up to 2TB) and supports backward compatibility where some Nintendo Switch games are playable on the new model.
