It's that time of year again with Samsung confirming that the next Galaxy Unpacked event will be on July 26, with the company teasing its new foldable device in videos uploaded to its Twitter and YouTube pages.

The upcoming event comes about one year after the company’s previous Galaxy Unpacked event, which unveiled the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4.

Based on the video, the device appears to be new generation Z Flip, with the slogan “join the flip side” also included in the video and being used as a hashtag on Samsung's Twitter post.

A number of alleged leaks have also been making the rounds about a pair of upcoming devices, which have been speculated to be the Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5.

Rumours about a supposedly larger Z Flip 5 cover screen have been floating around since late April, with a report from SamMobile claiming it reported on a supposed leak of a Z Flip 5 render last month that featured a significantly larger cover screen (measuring 3.4in) than the current generation model.

For context, the Z Flip 4’s screen measures 1.9in.

This was further supported by a report from Android Authority which in early June echoed the 3.4in cover screen claims, and added on the possible specs of the device, with it supposedly being equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, 8GB RAM, 128GB or 256GB storage, and two 12-megapixel cameras on the back.

It was claimed that the battery size (3,700mAh) and charging wired charging speed (25W) remain unchanged from last generation.

It’s also said that the Z Flip 5 would be the first in the series to feature support for Samsung DeX (the company's desktop interface) in a separate SamMobile report.

Other rumours pertain to the optimisation of software from both Samsung itself and Google apps as well for cover screen use. This includes the Samsung Keyboard, Google Maps, and YouTube.

On the other hand, the larger Z Fold 5 has been the subject of fewer leaks, with an alleged gapless hinge design (which the Flip 5 is also claimed to have), less noticeable inner screen crease and slimmer form factor.

The veracity of these leaks and rumours still remains to be seen, so those interested will need to wait until Samsung unveils its new foldable offerings at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked.

Samsung is also offering RM400 evoucher for pre-ordering the upcoming Galaxy devices to those who register their interest before July 26 on its website.

Galaxy Unpacked will be streamed live on the company’s YouTube channel, official website and Facebook page on July 26 at 7pm Malaysia time.
