The very thing that makes e-scooters great – they're compact and easy to tote around – also happens to be a weakness. Because the tyres and spokes of the scooter are usually too small to thread a normal bicycle lock through, owners have to buy a special lock.

Depending on the e-scooter model and shape, a chain, shack or folding lock may be the best option. Scooter owners should always first test out whether the lock fits – and how well it fits – before considering the strongest lock material they can get, says Auto Club Europa.
