WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump on May 27 threatened social media companies with new regulation or even shuttering after Twitter moved a day earlier to add fact checks to two of his tweets.

Claiming tech giants "silence conservative voices”, Trump said, "We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen.”
