A woman in the United States is facing theft charges for claiming she has cancer and leveraging her alleged condition to fraudulently collect donations on online platforms GoFundMe and Facebook, according to a CNN report.

The woman, identified as 32-year-old Jessica Smith, claimed that she had hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC) and received more than US$10,000 (RM41,241) in online donations.
