Not over Halloween? Play ‘Luigi’s Mansion 3’, ‘Afterparty’, ‘The Wanderer: Frankenstein’s Creature’

Take the mythical monster on a European journey in 'The Wanderer: Frankenstein's Creature'. — La Belle Games/ARTE France

Both hotel cleaner Luigi's Mansion 3 and inebriated underworld escape Afterparty took a playful approach to spooky themes during Halloween, with The Wanderer: Frankenstein's Creature likewise refreshing a well-known motif, Disney Classic Games: Aladdin And The Lion King revisiting two 1990s favourites, and Atelier Ryza welcomed as perhaps the best entry to a two-decade-old role-playing franchise.

Luigi's Mansion 3

Nintendo Switch from Oct 31

Mario's brother Luigi and squidgy pal Gooigi (controlled by the player or a friend) use a flashlight and anti-ghost vacuum cleaner to sweep up the spooks inside a 16-floor hotel. There are also cooperative and competitive modes for up to seven other pals. From the Canadian studio partner behind well-received 3DS franchise entry Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.

Afterparty

PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Mac and PC (Epic Game Store) from Oct 28

Escaping the depths of hell – a neverending party with a host of inventive cocktails – means outdrinking the Big Bad himself. Lifelong friends Milo and Lola must prove their worth, navigating the nightspots of the underworld, threading together conversations, bar sports and killer liquor combinations. A return to console and computer for Oxenfree studio Night School.

The Wanderer: Frankenstein's Creature

Mac and PC from Oct 31

The doctor's creation travels Europe in search of answers and understanding in a game inspired by Mary Shelley's classic but far closer to romanticism than horror, rendered in a beautiful watercolor style with a delicate soundtrack, and inviting players to come up with their own version of the Frankenstein myth.

Disney Classic Games: Aladdin And The Lion King

PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC from Oct 29

Multiple versions of Disney's Aladdin and The Lion King adaptations from the 1990s: Aladdin with the Sega Genesis edition in original and new Final Cut forms (the SNES game is unfortunately absent), plus the Game Boy version and a trade show demo, with The Lion King for Sega Genesis, Super Nintendo, and Game Boy. Now including spectator mode, rewind, visual filters and behind-the-scenes material.

Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout

PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC from Oct 29 (PC and North America), Nov 1 (International)

Village teenager Ryza Stout hasn't the faintest idea about the magical power of alchemy. Yet when she sets sail on an adventure with friends Tao and Lent, she enters a world more mysterious – and dangerous – than she ever imagined. September's Japanese version of Atelier Ryza was received as one of the best and most accessible entries to this long-running anime-style franchise. – AFP Relaxnews
