On Oct 10, Nintendo proudly announced that its Switch console, which it released in 2017, has just passed the 10-million mark in terms of European sales.
It appears that the September release of the Lite version of the Switch helped boost the sales of Nintendo's hybrid gadget. The Japanese manufacturer reports a 30% increase in Switch sales in 2019 in comparison to the same period in 2018, as well as a 40% bump when compared with 2017 numbers.
Of the 10 million European sales, two million Switches found their owners in France, according to statistics released on Sept 25, while the Brits snatched up over 1.9 million consoles.
As far as games go, Nintendo has announced 36 million of its own creations, 9 million of which occurred in Europe. Among these opuses, the Mario franchise obviously occupies a large part of the fandom with titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Party and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild, Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu and Pokémon: Let's Go Eevee, Splatoon 2 and 1-2 Switch round out the list.
Games from other studios such as Minecraft, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and Stardew Valley boast over 500,000 copies sold.
During its latest quarterly report back in July, Nintendo reported worldwide sales of 36.87 million Switches, 9.6 million of which in Europe and 14.83 in North America – the brand's biggest market. These figures will be updated in late Octobre when the Japanese titan unveils its next quarterly report. – AFP Relaxnews
