Right on schedule, a Microsoft executive announced on Sept 12 that this year's Surface Event will be live streamed on Oct 2 when the company plans to show "the world what's next for Surface & Microsoft".

Last year, the company used the event to debut a refreshed Surface Pro, Laptop, and Studio, as well as the brand-new Surface Headphones – a segment that the company will likely be expanding in October.

The Twitter publication by Panay inviting users to watch the event live has an illustration which appears to be a processor, suggesting that Microsoft products are going to receive major system updates.

According to ZDNet, who spoke with various sources familiar with Microsoft's plans, we could be seeing a handful of new Surface-branded devices including "an AMD-based Surface Laptop; an ARM-based Surface two-in-one; and an updated (with USB-C) Intel-based Surface Pro."

In June, the company reportedly held a presentation at which a laptop-tablet hybrid with dual-screens was demonstrated. While the launch of this hybrid isn't expected to take place until next year, a prototype may be making an appearance.
