Glide over the grasslands with a special someone in Haven, send and receive wholesome letters in Kind Words, and explore a dangerous land of cuddly-looking dinosaurs in Turok, while Bake 'n Switch pays tribute to the god of plump, yummy dough, Yokai Dungeon parades its mostly-fluffy main characters, and Stranded Sails sets up home on an island of secrets.
Haven
Yu and Kay head out of their remote, futuristic home in search of supplies, gliding over the grasslands of a shattered planet through a story-rich adventure. Defeated monsters can be revived and restored to their original peaceful forms. French-made, for one or two players on PlayStation 4, Switch and PC in 2020.
Kind Words (lo fi chill beats to write to)
Exchange encouraging, uplifting notes with (real) anonymous strangers. Available now on Mac, PC and Linux for subscribers to the July Humble Monthly Bundle and from Sept 13 through the Steam store.
Turok: Escape from Lost Valley
Once a boundary-pushing shooter, this franchise reimagining is based on the same source – a comic book character introduced in 1954 – but instead opts for a much cuter aesthetic, though its lands are still populated by dinosaurs, bears, and all manner of other dangerous if not cuddly-looking beasts. Made by Australia's one-man Pillow Pig Games, available from July 25 on PC.
Bake 'n Switch
Show your allegiance to the Guardian of Dough by preparing the yummiest, most succulent treats for the clay oven in teams of up to four, but don't let The Scourge (or uncooperative players) steal them away! Coming soon on PC from Malaysia's Streamline Games.
Yokai Dungeon
A block-pushing puzzle in which you explore a randomised sequence of rooms (different every time) as one of 20 adventurers – from foxes, racoons, pandas and penguins to lumbering lucky cactuses. From the Italian studio behind Super Cat Tales; coming soon to iOS and Android.
Stranded Sails
Village-building, farming and cooking combine with exploration and supernatural secrets after a ship's crew is wrecked on a mystery island chain. The third project from a small German team, on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One in October 2019. – AFP Relaxnews
