In the new game The Sinking City, Charles W Reed is a private investigator who often gets his feet wet. That's because Oakmont, the fictional city he investigates in the 1920s, is semi-submerged.

This detective adventure draws inspiration from the stories of HP Lovecraft. Developer Frogwares Game Development already has experience in the genre, having created Sherlock Holmes-based stories, but this time scares and monsters are added.

Reed goes to Oakmont to search for the cause of the constant flooding. He also wants to know what's behind the shattered mental state of the city's inhabitants. He investigates on land and water, sometimes in a boat and sometimes by diving.

The intellectual work is supplemented by fighting various monsters that cause mischief in the city. Here, Reed can fall back on classic weapons such as shotguns and small arms.

The Sinking City is out now for the Playstation 4, the Xbox One and PCs and costs US$60 (RM249). It's recommended for players aged 17 and older. – dpa
