A global pandemic has wiped out most of humanity. Now, survivors have to fight for their lives against zombie-like creatures.

Sound familiar?

The scenario in Sony's latest game for the Playstation 4, Days Gone might not be the most original, but since gamers can't seem to get their fill of post-apocolyptic shooters, here we are with what looks to be the start of a new series.

What stands out in the one, however, is the variety of narrative scenes driving the story between missions, giving Days Gone the character of a Hollywood film.

The action centres around biker and bounty hunter Deacon St. John who's looking for revenge on the zombies (called Freakers) for killing his fiancee.

Before a mysterious virus turned them into murderous hordes, the Freakers were once human. Unlike most other survivors who hide away underground, St. John actively seeks confrontation with them.

St. John uses his bike and other vehicles to travel through this vast open-world horror adventure set in the US Pacific Northwest. Sometimes he gets help from other survivors and he fulfils some tasks with his buddy Boozer.

Available exclusively for the Playstation 4, it costs around US$80 (RM331). – dpa
