Any app you download could pose a security risk to your personal data – and many users aren't even aware of it.
This is because many apps have so-called trackers embedded in them, which are supposed to track how and when you use the app, but often also track your entire device at the same time.
Trackers then record information such as what your shopping preferences are, or even how you move around the world. This is then used for personalised advertising.
For Android users, the app Exodus Privacy can help you identify what trackers are on your phone, and what advertising networks they are providing information.
Exodus also lists what authorisations the apps are using. The French company also offers a website service that allows you to find out about the apps before you install them. – dpa
