Generation selfie: German plastic surgeons see social media impact

Selfies and social media are influencing the kinds of cosmetic surgery people in Germany opt for, an industry figure said.

"Generation Selfie" are changing the face of the cosmetic surgery business, Alexander Hilpert of the German Society of Aesthetic-Plastic Surgery (DPAeC) said.

Photos have heightened people's awareness of their appearance, leading them to seek anti-wrinkle and botox treatments – two trends discovered in a DPAeC survey of around 2,000 patients.

These non- or minimally-invasive procedures made up around 44% of all procedures in the last year, up from 31% the previous year. – dpa
