Following the discontinuation of Yahoo Messenger in July, Yahoo owner Oath has released a new app to replace the messaging platform.

Yahoo Together (Android/iOS), previously known by its project name Squirrel, specialises in group chat. A key feature is that users can divide group conversations by topic, which is supposed to make it easier to plan and organise tasks.

It's also possible to classify individual topic chats as secret, with a selected list of contacts, which could be useful when discussing a shared gift for someone. You can also set automatic group notifications.

Former users of Yahoo Messenger should be able to save their chat history until the end of this November. – dpa
