OpenSignal, a website that measures mobile network performance, has released its latest findings on mobile video experience in 69 countries like South Korea, Brazil and Malaysia.

According to its report, more than 87 billion data points were collected from eight million devices from May 14 to Aug 11 to find out which countries provided the best video-viewing experience for mobile users.

So where does Malaysia stand?

In the Overall Video Experience Comparison chart, Czech Republic came in first with a score of 68.52 which means Very Good on its scale. Our neighbour Singapore is among the top 10 with a score of 66.94.

Sadly, Malaysia only scored 46.76 (Fair) and is one of the bottom 10 countries with Cambodia (40.66), Pakistan (40.31) and Iran (38.57).

What is a typical video-viewing experience like for users in the Fair category? The report claims users will face sluggish video load times and some connections problems when loading high-resolution formats.

The report also stated that no countries made it to Excellent category (score of 75-100) in the Overall Video Experience Comparison chart.

The Overall Speed Comparison basically gauges “the average mobile data connection a user experiences based on both the speeds and availability of a country’s 3G and 4G networks”.

In this category, South Korea came in first with an average overall speed of 45.58Mbps (megabits per second) followed by Norway with 40.25Mbps and Singapore with 38.11Mbps.

Malaysia has a long way to go to if it wants to catch up with Singapore or South Korea, as it came in 54th with an average overall speed of 10.21Mbps. It’s just ahead of countries like Thailand (6.49Mbps) and Indonesia (6.66MBps).

The report takes into account picture quality, video loading time and stall rate. The video experience is rated on a scale of 0-100 and then the scores are put into categories from Poor (0-40) to Excellent (75-100).
