Instagram users are not too happy that the founders of the social media network, which is owned by Facebook, are leaving the company.
In a statement posted on Sept 24, Kevin Systrom who launched Instagram with Mike Krieger in 2010, said that the duo are leaving “to explore curiosity and creativity again”.
"We’re planning on taking some time off to explore our curiosity and creativity again. Building new things requires that we step back, understand what inspires us and match that with what the world needs; that’s what we plan to do," they posted.
However, TechCrunch reports that the departure is due to tension mounting between them and Facebook’s leadership regarding Instagram’s autonomy while Bloomberg says that they were “frustrated with an unusual uptick in day-to-day involvement by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckberg”.
Concerned users have taken to Twitter to vent their frustrations, as they are worried that Instagram will be turned into another Facebook.
Instagram founders are out. That’s not good news if you’re a fan of Instagram. Facebook can now truly ruin it https://t.co/Fly46LYsf7
