The New York Public Library has made it possible browse through the archives of this famous library without even stepping outside.
As part of a new online service, the library has posted made more than 180,000 documents freely accessible to visitors of its website.
The collection includes maps, postcards, photographs, sheet music and stereoscopic views, as well as countless historic texts. Users can browse through a digital archive of tiny thumbnails, which have been strung together like a dense carpet.
The documents can also be sorted, for instance by the century in which they were created, their genre or even their colour. All documents can be downloaded for free in various resolutions. – dpa
