You may not have dreamed of playing football computer games to green lighting or battling with lasers in space to a multi-coloured background. But that hasn't stopped Philips from creating a new app that lets you connect your computer to the Philips Hue colour LED lights.

The new Hue Sync app connects the computer to Hue light sources, constantly checking the screen content so that the main colour is displayed by the LEDs. The idea is to extend the gaming atmosphere to the whole room.

Philips has even developed a device specially for this kind of atmospheric lighting. The Hue Play light bar, unveiled at the recent Gamescom trade fair in Germany, can be positioned under the monitor to illuminate the wall behind it in a largely glare-free way, but can also be deployed in other places.

It costs just under US$70 (RM290), with a pair for US$130 (RM539), and should be available from October. As well as games, the Hue Sync app for PC and Mac can also be used to accentuate films and music with light. – dpa
