If you're like most people, you've probably posted pictures or comments on several social media profiles – which could actually help boost your career opportunities, according to a recent survey.
Two in three companies, 63%, use social networks to find out more about job applicants, finds a recent Bitkom research survey.
Around a quarter of HR professionals, 24%, say they have decided whether or not to hire candidates based on what they have posted online. In their research, HR specialists focus mainly on professional networks such as Xing or LinkedIn (53%).
They look less often at networks like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, at 30%. Most of the interviewed HR personnel look out for professional qualifications, 81%, while only a third pay close attention to their hobbies or private activities, 34%.
The representative survey was conducted in June 2018 on behalf of the umbrella organization Bitkom – the German Association for IT, Telecommunications and New Media. Approximately 304 human resource managers in companies with 50 or more employees took part. — dpa
