Sony's new Xperia XZ2 Premium smartphone will hit shelves in the United States in late July, carrying a price tag of US$999 (RM4,062), well above the previously released XZ2 (US$800/RM3,253) and XZ2 Compact (US$650/RM2,643).

The Japanese maker's latest flagship packs a 16:9-ratio 4K-resolution screen (2160 x 3840 pixels). But despite the current trend towards bezel-free phones with fronts made entirely of screen, Sony's latest still has a large "forehead" and "chin" above and below its display.

On the rear, the XZ2's dual camera merges a high-speed, wide-angle colour lens (19 megapixel/f1.8 aperture) with a monochrome lens (12 MP/f1.6). The phone allows you to take high-contrast photos and videos (HDR) and view them on its 5.8-inch display.

The phone also has an LTE-enabled Snapdragon 845 Gigabit processor with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB of storage.

Sony has also announced the Xperia XA2 Plus, a new mid-range phone available in Europe for €400 (RM1,899), with no price confirmed for the United States yet.

It comes with a nearly bezel-less 6-inch 18:9-ratio display in Full HD Plus resolution (2160 x 1080 pixels). In addition to its 23-megapixel main camera that can capture 4K videos, the device features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor, 4 gigabytes (GB) of RAM and 32 GB of storage space. — dpa
